Bits and Pieces

I have collected a lovely conglomeration of stuff for you.

My very favourite things from recently.

I hope you enjoy them. All of them. At least some of them. At least one of them. Or else this was just a waste of your time.

First Favourite Thing

I call it "Sisters to be crazy with on a Sunday night".

Author and Blogger That I Just Really Love, and Who Has the Uncanny Ability to Write Exactly What I Need to Hear, and She Doesn’t Even Know Me.

Two links to posts/prayers of Emily P. Freeman’s that I particularly enjoyed:

My Latest Favourite Music

First of all: The Brilliance. I love them. They say good things. I love this song. As well as the rest of the album. They sing the right things to bring me to God. Just slow and thoughtful and hopeful enough for me.

Secondly: Ellie Holcomb. How I love her. I anxiously await the day when I can watch her music video for “The Broken Beautiful”. And I have never before in my life anxiously awaited a music video. She’s wonderful. Her music… if I had to choose two words for it, I would choose gentle and free.

My Latest Favourite Books

9780374500016

This book is an awful story. It is about the Holocaust. The introduction written by the author was so wise and sad and made me feel like crying. The story itself is, like I said, awful. It’s told in a very matter-of-fact way. Guaranteed to make you consider the possibility of WWIII and what it could mean for you. Don’t worry about it too much… but hey… what’s this I hear about Russia?

I really love this book by Emily P. Freeman. Reading her words makes me want to be brave and feel like I can be brave.

My Latest Favourite Poetry (Erm. Poem. I guess there’s just one that I’m sharing.)

I like this poem. I think it’s sad.

The Quiet World

BY JEFFREY MCDANIEL

In an effort to get people to look

into each other’s eyes more,

and also to appease the mutes,

the government has decided

to allot each person exactly one hundred

and sixty-seven words, per day.

When the phone rings, I put it to my ear

without saying hello. In the restaurant

I point at chicken noodle soup.

I am adjusting well to the new way.

Late at night, I call my long distance lover,

proudly say I only used fifty-nine today.

I saved the rest for you.

When she doesn’t respond,

I know she’s used up all her words,

so I slowly whisper I love you

thirty-two and a third times.

After that, we just sit on the line

and listen to each other breathe.

So there you go.

Some things that have blessed and/or entertained me lately.

  1. That poem is so wonderful. It just makes me feel so warm inside… and poetry NEVER does that to me. I’ve always hated it. But not that one! nice post. 🙂 ~Twyla
